Poems by John Pilkey
                                 Eugene Delacroix. Lion with a Rabbit

                              A son of glory preys like midnight cat
                                        on existential mice who fear the swat
                                        of lightning paw and feline theocrat;
                              he feeds on how they flee from knowing that.

                              A son of glory lands on balanced feet.
                                        Instead of cumbering a money street,
                                        he joins a swift and everlasting fleet
                              of walkers on the water's wavy beat.

                              A son of glory intercepts the face
                                        of every infidel within his space
                                        and proves a dog-eared creed all full of grace
                              becomes a new, unsentimental race.

                              A son of glory catches what he can
                                        and challenges the breed of mortal man
                                        to justify avoidance of the plan
                              that turns each adversary into fan.
